# Quality. Safety. Accountability

Clinical Governance

22 April 2025

At Khon Kaen EMS, we are establishing a Clinical Governance Team to ensure that our clinical care and training activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and accountability, in line with Thai and international guidelines. While we are not affiliated with the UK’s NHS, we have adopted the core principles of clinical governance—such as continuous quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and professional accountability—and adapted them to the Thai healthcare context. This approach is consistent with Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health policies on quality and safety in healthcare services and the National Institute for Emergency Medicine (NIEM) standards for emergency medical services. Our goal is to deliver care that is not only responsive and culturally appropriate but also aligned with the strategic direction of national health priorities, such as those outlined in the Thai Emergency Medical Service Development Plan.

The Clinical Governance Team works in partnership with NIEM, local EMS providers, academic institutions, and other relevant state bodies to provide oversight, conduct clinical audits, support professional development, and promote a culture of safety and learning. This aligns with the Thai Ministry of Public Health's emphasis on “service quality assurance” and “standardised training and care pathways” within the prehospital setting. By integrating Thai regulatory frameworks with globally recognised practices, such as those promoted by the World Health Organisation, we ensure that Khon Kaen EMS remains at the forefront of delivering safe, effective, and continuously improving emergency medical services to the communities we serve.

The team will comprise of Health Care Professionals (from Thailand & the UK), Clinical Skills Trainers and members of the management team. This provides us with a skill-mix that reflects our output.
